Algorithm Engineer

About this position

We are looking for an Algorithm Engineer who specializes in designing, implementing, and optimizing algorithms for data processing, decision-making, and system intelligence. This role is responsible for transforming raw and structured data into efficient, scalable algorithmic solutions that power core product functionality.

You will own the correctness, performance, and reliability of algorithmic systems and serve as the primary point of accountability for computational quality and efficiency.

Core Responsibilities

Algorithm Design & Development

  • Design, implement, and maintain efficient algorithms in Python for data processing, ranking, matching, optimization, or prediction tasks

  • Translate business and product requirements into well-defined algorithmic problems and solutions

  • Develop scalable solutions that operate on large and potentially noisy datasets

  • Ensure algorithms are modular, testable, and reusable across systems

Data Processing & Feature Engineering

  • Build data preprocessing pipelines to clean, normalize, and structure inputs for algorithmic use

  • Engineer features that improve algorithm performance and accuracy

  • Work with heterogeneous data sources (APIs, databases, files) to support algorithm inputs

  • Ensure consistency and reliability of inputs used by downstream models or logic

Performance Optimization

  • Analyze and optimize algorithms for time complexity, space efficiency, and scalability

  • Profile and benchmark implementations to identify bottlenecks

  • Implement strategies such as caching, batching, parallelization, and vectorization

  • Continuously improve system performance under production workloads

Validation & Quality Assurance

  • Define evaluation metrics and success criteria for algorithm performance

  • Build automated testing frameworks for correctness, edge cases, and regression prevention

  • Perform statistical analysis and validation of results

  • Monitor algorithm outputs in production and detect anomalies or drift

System Integration

  • Integrate algorithms into production systems and APIs

  • Collaborate with backend and data teams to ensure seamless data flow and system compatibility

  • Ensure robustness through error handling, logging, and observability

  • Support real-time and batch processing use cases

Work Environment

  • Fully remote position

  • Work hours: 9 AM to 5 PM Mountain Time

  • Join a small, innovative team with a focus on AI-first solutions

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Python: Strong proficiency in writing production-quality algorithmic code

  • Algorithms & Data Structures: Deep understanding of algorithm design, complexity analysis, and optimization techniques

  • Data Processing: Experience with libraries such as pandas, NumPy, or similar tools

  • Mathematics & Statistics: Solid foundation in probability, statistics, and/or linear algebra

Experience

  • BS in Computer Science or comparable field

  • 3+ years of professional experience in algorithm development, software engineering, or a closely related role

  • Proven track record of building efficient, scalable algorithmic solutions

  • Experience owning correctness and performance of systems, not just implementation

Other Requirements

  • Strong version control habits (Git) and comfort with code review workflows

  • Ability to clearly communicate complex algorithmic concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Strong problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and correctness

  • Highly skilled in vibe coding and understands when AI is helpful and when it is harmful; able to validate outputs independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with optimization problems, search algorithms, or ranking systems

  • Familiarity with parallel and distributed processing techniques

  • Experience deploying algorithms in production environments (APIs, services, or batch systems)

  • Enjoys optimizing code and improving performance

  • Interest in statistics, modeling, or machine learning
